// diy stockings

tis the season for diy crafts. from festive household design to holiday gifts to party decor, there are plenty of reasons to get your craft on.

here's a little overview for making adorable stockings to hang on your wall or spice up the fireplace.

first, head to your local secondhand store -- goodwill or salvation army are perfect (or maybe even your own closet). find a couple tweed coats or blazers.

next, create a pattern out of cardboard, trace the pattern on the inside of the coat, then repeat. you'll need two separate pieces. you might want to cut each piece from a different coat so that your stocking is unique on each side. once you have your cut-outs, you'll need some embroidery thread or string and a needle. use whipstitch to sew the pieces together. note: with this stitch, you will not turn the sock inside out.

and finally, add a rectangle of material to create the top. sew a hook, add a bell, embellish with buttons (from the coat!) to make it yours. voila! you're now the proud owner of a hand-crafted stocking ready to fill with goodies. // roxy
