happy anniversary {55 years}

today we celebrate two of the most wonderful people i have the pleasure of calling family!!  megan here and today is my step-grandparents 55th wedding anniversary.  the mister and i just celebrated their day amongst family and friends this past weekend and i feel so blessed to have been part of the day.  chuck and joan were sweet enough to share some of their wedding photos with us and i am in ahh of the beauty!!!  here is a little about the day from the bride, joan, herself.  i asked my step-mom if they had a first dance and this is some sweet background about their wedding day, 55 yrs. ago today.....
we didn't have a band at our wedding reception, so no first dance.  back then most people I knew didn't have big receptions - alot of people held their receptions in the church hall.  our reception was at the VFW hall.  they had a women's group that "catered" the reception.  we got married when Chuck graduated, after my junior year.  Since we got married in Michigan and grandma and grandpa were in California, I had to do all of the planning myself.  Fortunatelly there was a florist, photographer and bridal shop in a shopping area next to campus, so I'd walk over after class or on Saturday to order what I needed.  A couple of classmates and I went to the bridal shop and I picked out my wedding gown in about 15 minutes.  The Methodist church was so close that it was almost on the campus, so that was handy too.  My only time off from classes was 2 weeks in the summer, so we scheduled the wedding for the end of the first week, then had a week after for our honeymoon.
actually, I really liked my wedding gown and didn't have time to worry much about the wedding plans, but things fell into place quite smoothly.  i had a big paper  (a nursing case study) due the day before my 2 weeks off, but the nursing instructor in that class was young and about to get engaged, so gave me an extra month to turn in the paper.  how sweet is that!  i love the simplicity and beauty behind their day and that dress, so stunning....joan you make for a beautiful bride!!
a little side note about the ring i am wearing (my engagement ring) is that it is a family heirloom!!  i feel so very grateful that i am able to wear this stone that has been in joan's family for many generations.  i sometimes stop to think of all the different places this ring has been.

happy anniversary to joan + chuck and here is to celebrating 55 yrs together!  your wedding is simply a timeless celebration!
